Fuzzy set theory - and its applications. 2nd, revised ed

HJ Zimmermann
ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT This is the revised edition (foreword by L. A. Zadeh) of a book of great success, first published in 1985. It is didactically well prepared and it is divided into two parts. In the first one, containing 8 chapters, the author deals with mathematical background of fuzzy sets in chapters 2 and 3, chapter 1 is introductory. In chapter 3 an extended discussion of set- theoretic operations of fuzzy sets (among others, triangular norms and conorms) is presented. Fuzzy measures and measures of fuzziness are given in chapter 4. The extension principle of Zadeh is applied in chapter 5 to type-2 fuzzy sets and fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy relations and fuzzy graphs are illustrated in chapter 7, chapter 8 contains comparisons and relationships between possibility theory, probability theory and fuzzy set theory. The second part of the book is devoted to applications. The chapters 9, 10, 11, 13 on fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning, on expert systems and fuzzy control, decision making and operations research, respectively have been reorganized with respect to the first edition. Chapter 11 concerns pattern recognition. 97 figures, 33 tables, 83 exercises (put at the end of each chapter), and about 400 references complete the body of the text.
